— The exact text message I recieved from a drunkard and a glutton, which in my tandem hangover glory, I saw as skeleton licking eyes open, thus beginning the great new wave of found poetry, in which a biting commentary on alcoholism, youth, and technology converge in a beautiful chaos to create what it really means to wake up hungover and read through texts from last night. It is. Poetry for the texting age.

THE SITUATION IS FLUID

I’ve been lazy about writing. Or maybe too much is happening, or maybe too little is happening, or maybe it’s all “not right” things to write about. Istanbul is still a confusing mix of happy and sad, sick and well, and whenever I force it, bad words come. So no forcing it. Hopefully I’ll want to write soon.

I really enjoy the fact that you can basically sum up the ending of Hamlet with this gif

Just to prepare you, my video tomorrow will be a comparison of a hit song by Drake and Benjamin Franklin’s Autobiography.

How did you know that Benjamin Franklin’s autobiography is my favorite autobiography.

Looking back, my first week of classes can be summed up as an oozing gelatinous mass of broken promises and organized chaos? Which makes about as much sense as I want it to make, word wise. In Georgia I couldn’t wait to wake up every morning. Here, I feel like I’m walking on eggshells or Ataturk. I’m also pissed I have to work tomorrow (SATURDAY)

I hope once everything settles down, and the kids finally get their books and materials, everything will be better. Magically.

Istanbul itself is really stressing me out too. There are so many people everywhere. I’ve never been somewhere like this for so long. I’m exhausted by all of the life around me, and it’s weird. I’m less lonely than I was in Seattle, but more… on edge.

I’m aiming for some retail therapy today in Moda — I’m in desperate need of shoes, and using this need to power through to my second wind.

I have a girl named Tuğba. The g is silent. Her name is TUBA.

I have a boy named Can. The c is a j. His name is JOHN.

Nar

This morning I ate a fig and criss-crossed the Bosphorous a few times via ferry. There are a lot of radio towers and minarets needling inner space. I ate balik ekmek (literally, fish food bread) from MERDOFISH and it’s true, each bite of that sandwich was so different and divine that I forgave the couple of fish bones I almost choked on.

After a while the juice guy asked me “How do YOU say nar,” and somehow I understood that because I told him, “pomegranate,” until he knew all of the syllables. He continued squeezing those nars and giving me this look, like “That’s a cray-long word I’m going to keep on saying nar forever fuck english.”

A draw: they call grapefruit, greyfurt.

And Piper, too! #dogpack

Yup, this is my Istanbul experience. I AM IN ISTANBUL WITH AWESOME PEOPLE. There are protests at the bull - they’ve recently made their way to Kadikoy. I don’t like walking around by myself at night.
